Advocacy
Since the fall of 2000 and the start of the Second Intifada, the Jewish Community Federation has been engaged in educating both the Jewish and general communities about Israel—going beyond the “headlines” to showcase Israel as a multi-faceted nation that has made positive contributions to medicine, science, technology, democracy and culture.
The Israel Center (and previously our Israel Task Force) partners with the Jewish Community Relations Council’s East Bay Region as well as with grassroots organizations such as the local Israel Action groups. Our work has involved both media watch and response, providing accurate information about Israel to the print, and electronic media. We also want to assure that our community has useful information about Israel and engage them in outreach on behalf of our relationship with Israel.
The Israel Center has developed a cadre of knowledgeable speakers and provides hands-on support for curricular development on any aspect of Israeli history, politics, current events and culture. We engage synagogues, JCC’s and civic organizations in sponsoring programs on Israel and work collaboratively with the East Bay Israel action committees (see below for an email roster).
In summary, our goal is to build strong support for Israel in the East Bay through media relations, curricular enhancement, education and cultural programs, including screenings of Israeli films at the Contra Costa International Jewish Film Festival.
